Famous Instagram Pets Adorably Urge You To Adopt Your Soon To Be New Best Friend

The Internet's favorite adopted pets, Lil BUB, Tuna, Nala and Ginny came together to raise awareness on adoption for Best Friends Animal Society. If you get through this post without going "awww," then you have no heart.

Lil BUB

When I got a photo of BUB in July of 2011, I knew I had to meet this amazing creature. At two months old she weighed less than a pound, and looked unlike any other critter I'd ever seen. BUB was born with a multitude of genetic anomalies that all add up to one of nature's happiest accidents.

Beyond her incredibly unique looks, her personality is completely different from other cats. It’s like she’s from a different planet. Whether she’s at home or perched on my shoulders in Times Square, she’s always in awe - perpetually experiencing life for the very first time. BUB maintains a very ‘Zen’ state of awareness and exudes a very positive energy, which many people describe as ‘magical’ and 'healing'. I know it sounds crazy, but she’s moved hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

Beyond being overwhelmingly cute, exceptionally smart and painfully witty, BUB is an advocate for homeless and special needs pets everywhere. So, for anyone out there looking for a pet like BUB, please adopt! Special needs cats may be more work or require more attention, but they’ll return your love tenfold. BUB is my best pal, and I’m just excited to come home and get to hang out with her all the time. She’s a very special critter, and I’m so fortunate to have her in my life.

Ginny

In 2008 I was doing some volunteer work in a kennel that doubled as a small run shelter. One morning, the woman who owned the place drove in with a dog who had been left tied up to a fence by a busy main road. The dog turned out to be Ginny.

She was underweight, her tail had been docked badly, her fur was knotted, the skin on her back paws were raw due to severe allergies that hadn't been treated, and she was covered in fleas. After several vet visits, I decided to take her home because I couldn't bare to think of her spending any more time away from a loving home she deserved. It was months until she came home before she was 100% healthy, but in the middle of 2009 she was a healthy weight, trusting people and happy to know she had a safe forever home.

Now, Ginny is our little cheeky monkey! Her personality is just pure rascal. She loves to play fetch, she loves to dig, she loves to cover me in muddy paws and she absolutely loves to be hugged. I’ll never forget the first time Ginny saw her own reflection. I wish I had caught that on film at the time. It was a few years ago and she saw herself in the TV and went crazy! She was jumping up and down trying so hard to get the "other dog" she saw in the TV to play. After 10 minutes or so she just gave up and fell asleep in front of the TV. But to this day Ginny still loves seeing her own reflection.

If you are ready to welcome a dog (or any pet) into your home, ADOPT ALL THE WAY! I guarantee you it will be the best choice you make. Adopted pets are so full of love, and seem to be so thankful to have a chance in a home. Adopting Ginny was without a doubt the best thing I've done so far.

Tuna

In December 2010, I met Tuna at a farmers market where he was being shown for adoption by a private rescuer. He was an insecure 4-month old Chiweenie puppy with a gigantic overbite, coupled with other unique physical features. It was obvious to me that he was unloved and in need of a good home, however, I wasn’t in the position to adopt because of my demanding schedule, so I decided to foster him instead.

Then, on the night before returning him to his rescuer, he fell asleep cradled in my arms with his little head on my shoulder. When I awoke the next morning, he was sound asleep, in the exact same position. I knew in that moment that I just couldn’t let him go.

Three years later, he has developed into a confident dog full of charisma and personality. He enjoys getting his picture taken and he loves to play in the yard with his favorite toy, Colin. He is the best cuddlier and if he had it his way, he would stay in bed with me all day. Tuna is my best friend and I can’t imagine my life without him.

I wish that everyone could know the kind of special bond that Tuna and I have. Rescued animals are so grateful and appreciative to be saved, and as a result, they make the greatest, most loving companions. Adopting will be one of the best decisions you will ever make.

Nala

I wasn’t serious about adopting a cat when I met Nala. But when I picked her up and she licked my face, I knew she was coming home with me. It was only after I took her home that I found out what many other adoptive parents know––when you adopt a cat or kitten from the shelter, they sometimes have breathing problems and infections that need to be taken care of. Now imagine a kitten Nala, walking around and sneezing uncontrollably. Adorable and sad at the same time. But after some serious love, attention, and of course medicine, Nala became the sweet, playful cat I love today.

The reason I started her Instagram was to share her with family and friends back home. I would have never imagined I’d have so many followers who love Nala as much as I do. And now that we have so much attention, I want to use it to help other animals in need. It’s so important for us all to spay and neuter our pets, and keep perfectly lovable dogs and cats out of shelters.

Even though I never really intended to adopt a kitten that day, I know it was meant to be. Nala is my best friend, and I’m so glad I found her.
